  • No wheat, maize or soya: sweet potato and peas instead
  • Ideal for dogs with sensitive skin or delicate digestion
  • No artificial colours or preservatives

What is grain-free dog food?

Grain-free food replaces wheat, maize, rice and other grains with low-glycaemic carbohydrates such as sweet potato, pea or potato. Fresh meat becomes the first ingredient, with a higher percentage of animal protein than in a conventional food.

It is not a passing fad: in dogs with digestive or skin sensitivities, cutting out cereals usually means firmer stools, less gas and a shinier coat within a few weeks. The key is not simply removing the grain, but what replaces it and how much real meat the recipe provides.

Which dogs is it suitable for?

It is a good option for dogs with sensitive skin, seasonal itching, delicate digestion or intolerance to wheat and maize, as well as for owners who simply prefer a meatier recipe.

Not every dog needs it: a healthy dog that tolerates its current food well does not have to switch. And if there is a diagnosed allergy to a specific protein, the right choice is not just to remove the cereal but a monoprotein hypoallergenic food that uses a single animal source.

How to switch food without upsets

Always make a gradual 7-to-10-day transition: start with 25% of the new recipe mixed with the old one, move to half by day 4, three quarters by day 7 and complete the switch around day 10. An abrupt change is the most common cause of diarrhoea when starting a new food.

Frequently asked questions

Is grain-free food better for every dog?+

Grain-free food is especially recommended for dogs with sensitive skin, delicate digestion or intolerance to wheat and maize. A healthy dog that tolerates its food well does not necessarily gain an advantage by switching. If there is a specific protein allergy, a monoprotein hypoallergenic food is a better fit.

Is grain-free food linked to heart problems (DCM)?+

In 2018 the US FDA opened an investigation into a possible link between certain grain-free diets very high in legumes and dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Later studies did not establish a causal link and the investigation was closed without definitive conclusions. Our recipes balance their protein sources and do not overuse legumes. If in doubt, and especially in predisposed breeds, consult your vet.

What does the food contain if it has no cereals?+

Cereals are replaced by gentle, easily digestible carbohydrates such as sweet potato, pea or potato, which provide sustained energy without spiking blood sugar and tend to sit better with sensitive stomachs.

Is grain-free the same as hypoallergenic?+

No. Grain-free means it contains no grains, but it may include several animal protein sources. Hypoallergenic (monoprotein) means it uses a single protein source to identify and avoid the allergen in dogs with a diagnosed food allergy. A dog with an allergy needs the monoprotein option, not just the removal of cereals.

How long does it take to notice the improvement?+

In digestion, the changes (firmer stools, less gas) are usually seen within the first few days after completing the transition. In skin and coat, results are more gradual and become visible from 4-6 weeks of continued use.
