Why Labradors are always hungry
The Labrador Retriever has a mutation in the POMC gene that blocks the satiety signal in the brain. Between 50-60% of Labradors are overweight.
Table of rations for Labrador according to weight and age
Puppy (2-6 months): 180-240g/day divided in 3 intakes. Active adult (25-30kg): 280-340g/day. Senior (>8 years): 240-280g/day. These values are for dry feed with ~3,500 kcal/kg.
The rib test: how to know if your Labrador is at his weight
Run your thumbs down the spine and your fingers along the ribs. You should feel the ribs with a light layer of muscle, but not see them.
What to do if your Labrador always wants more
Divide the ration into 2 feedings. Use a slow feeder to delay feeding. Add unsalted cooked vegetables as a volume filler without calories.
